Abstract :
Education is a tool for social transformation. An educated person thinks independently about the actions to be taken to solve the problem he/she is facing. Government interest in social development has given the substantial emphasis on developing human resources of the nations. In case of general population the educational level of women has been remained lower side as compared to males. There are several problems and challenges of women's education in India. This paper highlights the current policy and future need of women in Indian context. The current national policies and program r directed at the provisions of the quality education. The government is also making its efforts to universalize primary education to fulfill the commitment given for right to education. In this paper various action programs related to empowerment of girl child are discussed. Operation Black Board, Nutritional Support for Primary Education, Education Guarantee Scheme, District Primary Education Program, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Navoday Vidyalya, and National Open Schools etc has been discussed along with policy the framework.
