Abstract :
7 lines x 3 testers mating design along with 10 eggplant genotypes and 21 F1s were used of line, tester was higher than that of interaction of line x tester for all the characters. The ratio of SCA and GCA variance was less than unit and for number of branches per plant, number of fruits per plant, fruit weight and fruit yield per plant indicating the predominance of non-additive gene action over the additive gene action. The female Annamalai, male KKM-1 was observed to be good general combiners for most of the characters studied. The cross between Annamalai x KKM-1 and Co-1 x KKM-1 were observed good specific combiners for fruit yield per plant. However the cross combination Annamalai x KKM-1 was identified as the promising specific combiner for further importance in eggplant.
