Abstract :
Indian women and rural women in particular play many social and economic roles inside as well as outside the home. Rural Indian women are extensively involved in agriculture activities. Agriculture in the so called third world countries depends heavily on manual labour and women constitute the maximum number. The women are the backbone of agricultural workforce but worldwide her hard work has mostly been unpaid. Over the years, there has been a gradual realization of the key role of women in agricultural development and their contribution in the activities like sowing, transplanting, weeding, irrigation, winnowing, storing, food security, horticulture, nutrition and other household activities.
