Article Name : | | SIKH VISION OF AN IDEAL SOCIAL ORDER | Author Name : | | ARVINDER SINGH | Publisher : | | Ashok Yakkaldevi | Article Series No. : | | GRT-1913 | Article URL : | | | Author Profile View PDF In browser | Abstract : | | Guru Nanak, a divinely inspired soul, laid the foundation of Sikhism at the critical juncture in the 15th century when Medieval Indian society was suffering from ill effects of religious intolerance, empty ritualism, social inequalities, casteism, untouchbility etc. Sikh vision of an ideal, fair and equitable society stems from the urge for removing the social injustices and to ensure the individual freedom and equal opportunities to all to access the appropriate living conditions irrespective of their caste, creed, color, sex etc. Guru Nanak and his successor Sikh Gurus raised the strong voice against prevailing social evils. They envisaged a model of an ideal society which is based on spirit of respect for human dignity, human rights, abolition of social and gender discriminations. Sikh socio-religious institutions translate the ideal of liberty, equality and fraternity in letter and spirit. Sikh ideal society is an egalitarian and democratic in spirit, multicultural and plural in nature; and just, free and equitable in application. Sikh vision of an ideal society has adequate potential to resolve the contemporary social dilemmas arising out of ethnic and religious diversities. | Keywords : | | |
