The quality of ground water in some parts of the country, especially the shallow ground water is changing due to human activities. Ground water is less susceptible to bacterial population than surface water since the soil and rocks through which ground water flows, filters most of the pathogenic microorganisms. The main aim of this paper is to bring in view, a comparative study of ground water quality of mainly two districts (Burdwan and Purulia) of West Bengal. In this context, different water samples were collected from respective spots of two districts of West Bengal namely Burdwan and Purulia. The samples were collected during the post monsoon session. The collected samples were analyzed for estimation of pH, BOD, COD, TSS, Heavy metals along with bacteriological examination. The end result showed high BOD in Burdwan district due to industrial waste discharge. The bacteriological examination showed positive test for coliform bacteria, which indicates that the ground water of both the districts are contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms. | Keywords : | | |
