It further aimed to know the age trends in behaviour problems among preschoolers. The information was collected through Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL) from the parents (n=150) of preschoolers, 50 each from three age groups viz. 3-4 year, 4-5 year and 5-6 year. Observation was conducted to supplement the data. Purposive sampling technique was adopted for the selection of nursery schools and day care centres from which the entire sample was identified and for the selection of parents, random sampling technique was used. The findings of the study indicated that some behaviour problems were found to be common among preschoolers like fearing school, crying a lot, demanding attention, being stubborn, impulsiveness, not eating well, anxiety and arguing. Significant difference was found with regard to the behaviour problems between the three age groups. It was interpreted that with the advancement in age; there is a decrease in the incidence of behaviour problems like uncommunicativeness and anxiety among preschoolers. Delinquency was observed only in case of 5-6 year old children. Depression was noticed to be increasing with age. Somatic complaints were not prevalent among the sample children. There was significant difference on the mean score of CBCL of 3-4 and 4-5 year old children and 5- 6 and 3-4 year olds, while insignificant difference was found between 4-5 and 5-6 year old children. | Keywords : | | |
