They are one of the offshoots of Mongoloid stock while linguistically they are Tibeto-Burmans and most of them are inhabited in Upper Assam. The Misings had their own traditional beliefs and practices but ever since their migration to the plains of Assam they underwent a process of acculturation. This had resulted in the influence of different religions like Vaisnavism and Hinduism among the Misings. The Misings in course of time also got attracted to Christianity and thus the conversion towards Christianity is increasing. Thus the objective of my paper is to look in to the prevalence of Christianity among the Misings, factors responsible for it and the problems being faced by the Missionaries. | Keywords : | | |
