AIDS can provoke irrational emotions and fears in health care and had called for a national response in terms of both HIV prevention and care. There was a violent ten-year conflict in Nepal. The authors of a recent article state that the violent conflict may have fuelled the HIV/AIDS epidemic in india. The rising prevalence of HIV among pregnant women in rural India is of great concern (Rogers et al., 2006).
