Sanitation is vital for human health and it is one of the important indicators that reflect the quality of life of the people. Despite its immense importance in human lives, this issue remained neglected for years in developing countries including India. India stands second amongst the worst places in the world for sanitation where hardly 33 percent of rural population has access to basic sanitation. Upto the decade of 1980 (‘World Water Decade’), rural sanitation didn’t receive proper attention of the government in India; however, gradually its importance became recognized as a development agenda. |
