Indian agriculture was in a depressed and deplorable condition. Farmers were in heavy debt to the professional money lenders and Commercial banks. Most of the farmers in India to cultivation by lending’s. But these crops were damaged with natural disasters like floods and droughts. Due to this situation farmers need crop insurance for self sustaining. Crop insurance means it is an insurance arrangement aiming at mitigating the financial losses suffered by the farmers due to damage and destruction of their crops as a result of various production risks. Crop insurance has been arranged various institutions like Comprehensive Crop Insurance Scheme (CCIS), National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and etc. National Agricultural Insurance Scheme is a good step far ward to insure risk of millions of farmers whose livelihood depends on the pattern and distribution of monsoon rain in India. The main Objectives of this study are to estimate the Trends in the growth of insured number of farmers and insured area under the two seasons during 2003-04 to 2013-14 and to assess the importance of National Agricultural Insurance Scheme in India. |
